Squad training
In partnership with BlueFit Swimming, Lane Cove Swim Club (LCSC) provides a comprehensive squad training program for all levels of ability from beginner to elite swimmer, helping improve skills, fitness and performance.
The reception team at Lane Cove Aquatic Centre (swimschool@lanecoveaquatic.com.au), manages registrations, bookings and fees for Lane Cove Swim Club Squads.
Upon graduation from BlueFit’s Learn-to-Swim Program (Croc Level), or upon assessment by coaching staff, swimmers can commence squad training.
Beyond the Junior Squad Level, the Squad Training Program offers two pathways for swimmers. The Fitness Pathway (SwimFit) supports swimmers to train for general fitness, the Competitive Pathway supports swimmers to progress through Squad Levels with the intention of developing as a competitive swimmer.
Junior Squad
Junior Squad focuses on stroke technique and skills over all four strokes with an emphasis on squad etiquette. Swimmers are generally between 8 and 12 years of age and train for one hour. In this squad swimmers are targeting to compete at the local area championships – Swimming Metro North East (SMNE). Swimmers are also encouraged to participate in the Lane Cove Swim Club Saturday morning races to gain further experience and skills.
- 1 hour sessions.
- Equipment – fins, pull buoy, kickboard and labelled water bottle.
- An adult must accompany all children aged under 15years
- Each Junior Squad swimmer is encouraged to be a registered swimming member of Lane Cove Swim Club.
Fitness pathway – SwimFit
SwimFit is designed for swimmers that want to train for surf/ocean swims, triathlons, masters/school carnivals or general fitness. This squad will focus on stroke technique and efficiency, with an emphasis on overall conditioning from sprint through to aerobic training. This squad is open to all swimmers aged 13 and older, including adults.
- 1-1.5 hour sessions.
- Equipment – fins, kickboard, pool buoy and labelled water bottle.
- Students able to enter for lessons without an adult regardless of their age.
- Each member of SwimFit is encouraged to be a registered member of Lane Cove Swim Club.
Competitive pathway
All swimmers in the Competitive Squads must be a member of Lane Cove Swim Club. Full Swimmer Membership entitles swimmers to compete in LCSC and external swim meets
Bronze Squad
Bronze Squad focuses on the development of race technique and skills, with an introduction into conditioning. Swimmers are generally under the age of 13 years. In this squad swimmers are targeting to compete at the local area championships – Sydney Metropolitan North East (SMNE), Sydney Metropolitan Championships and the NSW Junior State Championships.
To be eligible to move into the bronze squad, swimmers must have demonstrated a previous season of Saturday morning club racing.
- 1 hour sessions, up to 5 per week (2-3 recommended).
- Equipment – fins, kickboard, pool buoy and labelled water bottle.
- Students able to enter for lessons without an adult regardless of their age.
- Each member of Bronze Squad must be a registered swimming member of Lane Cove Swim Club.
Silver Squad
Silver Squad focuses on the development of advanced race technique and skills and a continuation of conditioning for performance. Swimmers are generally under the age of 14 years. In this squad swimmers are targeting to compete in local area meets with a major focus on the NSW State Championships.
To move into this squad, swimmers must have demonstrated a previous season of competition at external meets and competed at the SMNE Championships.
- 1.5 hour sessions (minimum of 3 sessions per week required).
- Equipment – fins, kickboard, pool buoy and labelled water bottle.
- Students able to enter for lessons without an adult regardless of their age.
- Each member of Silver Squad must be a registered swimming member of Lane Cove Swim Club.
Gold Squad
Gold Squad focuses on advanced race technique, skills and strategy. This program combines pool, dryland training and sport science services as a part of physical preparation for elite performance. Swimmers are generally over the age of 13 years.
For swimmers to be eligible to move into the gold squad, they must have demonstrated a previous season of swimming a minimum of five sessions per week and competed at the NSW State Championships.
- 2 hour sessions (minimum of 5 sessions per week required).
- Equipment – fins, kickboard, pool buoy and labelled water bottle.
- Students able to enter for lessons without an adult regardless of their age.
- Gold Squad members over the age of 16 years will get access to the gym facilities outside of their squad times.
- Each member of Gold Squad must be a registered swimming member of Lane Cove Swim Club.
Squad Progression
Swimmers have their attendance, testing results, and training efforts monitored to ensure appropriate progression within the squad program. Progression to the next squad level will be at the discretion of the Head Coach, to ensure the transition is beneficial for the development of the swimmer.

Pricing
Please note: this pricing includes entry to the centre for all squad sessions and entitles squad swimmers (excluding casuals) to free pool entry outside of their squad sessions.
Pricing listed is per fortnight – fortnightly direct debit, every second Friday.
Policies and procedures
- Fortnightly direct debit – every second Friday.
- Squads do not use the parent portal at present.
- Customers can only hold a position in the program alongside a medical certificate for a period of 3-8 weeks. If illness is longer than 8 weeks then the student must be cancelled from the squad.
- Students must book in for permanent weekly lessons.
- Students must purchase and bring listed equipment.
- Any assessments or level progressions must be in writing from the coach, word of mouth is not an acceptable method.
